Obit: Russell Hecker Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Norwood Cemetery, town of Norwood for Russell C. Hecker. Rev. Roger McAbee will officiate.

Mr. Heckert, 83, formerly of the Phlox and Mattoon area, died Jan. 18 at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Rev. Roger McAbee will officiate.

Mr. Hecker was born on May 5, 1915 in Phlox, a son of the late Alfred and Lydia (Modine) Hecker Sr.

He grew up on the family dairy farm in the town of Hutchins.

He had a special talent for playing many musical instruments, but especially enjoyed the saxophone. He proformed with various bands in the area.

Survivors include a brother, Vernon (Rita) Hecker, Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Gladys Thomas, Aniwa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Hecker and Merritt Hecker; and three sisters, Delores Stadler, Fern Hohn and Muriel Hecker.

Schmidt-Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood, is assisting the family with arrangements.
